A day of sorting through many music books as I recover from a bug picked up at work. These sit in one of the “live” piles - books I am actively reading, processing, digesting, considering, engaging with.

A trip to East Clare to visit a friend and there’s always a chance for a tune. This one at Bodyke, home of the celebrated Martin Rochford. Several generations of fine musicians led by Seamus Bugler and Des Mulkere. The place was soon full as the whole community was out.

As the Irish say, he is ciotóg. I play left handed and many in Ireland regularly do so.

In early transverse flutes such as this, there were no keys and the embouchure of the instrument (blow hole) was not biased one way or the other so could easily be played either way.
