Trouble’s blowing in from the mainland — and it’s renewable.
Cue chaos, charm, and community politics in this witty, warm-hearted novel.
📚 An t-Eilean Dorcha by Gordon MacLeod is the perfect read for fans of Local Hero, The Shipping News, and beautifully odd small towns.

The hardest thing about writing, ‘An t-Eilean Dorcha’ was trying to write something humorous that didn’t undermine those who face this battle, while also trying not to undermine the need to address climate change, by those that seek to deny it: amzn.eu/d/iCgVKon

Whisky, appropriately enough given Isle of Raasay whisky, plays a prominent role in my humorous sixth novel from 2024, ‘Pods for Pigs’ which is set on the beautiful Isle of Raasay: amzn.eu/d/cA4BlQ1

In my 2013 novel, ‘Beyond the Tree at Mamre’, Andrei Rublev’s ‘The Icon of the Trinity’, from the early 15th century, played a prominent role in the thoughts of Martin, the main character, underpinned the storyline and influenced the title of the novel: amzn.eu/d/c8oBHlm

In my novel, ‘Just a Little Drop More’, James a retired geologist drove through the small village of Sannox until he came to the large building and gate that lay opposite the wood by the shore, and which heralded the beginning of the path up the Glen.

In my second novel, ‘76’, published in 2009, John and his cousin walk to the village of Hallaig on Raasay. This is the scene they see on part of that walk, and John turns to Murdo and says, “I mean, you are here, the MacLeods are still here, in Hallaig”.

“Hugh and Murdoch watched intently as two of the men jumped aboard a small boat moored at the harbour”.
(Quote from ‘Silicon Glen’, my first novel written in 1995/96 amzn.eu/d/gQQIShv).
This is the very harbour in Brodick where that scene is set.

Quite simply, this novel is a polemic against the industrialisation of the Highlands and Islands of Scotland (and elsewhere) through the development of large scale renewable energy projects:

Turbines, turbines everywhere! They call it green energy.
But on one small island, the “wind rush” threatens to blow life off course — including the people who live there. ‘An t-Eilean Dorcha (The Dark Island)’, is available on Amazon in paperback or for Kindle. a.co/d/hDHJhtE
