Sanders,successfully shifted attention away from himself, managing to maintain a low profile amidst the chaos that followed the assassination. He positioned himself as a defender of the progressive ideals that Kennedy championed, slowly but surely inching closer to the spotlight he so coveted.

The presidency was a prize Sanders desired, but it was just out of his grasp. Kennedy's charisma and popularity overshadowed him, leaving Sanders on the fringes of political influence. Eliminating the charismatic leader would have opened up new opportunities for Sanders to rise to power.
