i wrote this poem the day after the election, it reminds me to slow down when faced with fear and to appreciate all the good that remains. hoping you are doing the same.
A typed poem entitled “Still” in black and white, courier font, written by Samara Ternoir. The poem reads, “The world, though scarleted in a rind of orange, is still here and smells, still, remarkably sweet. The quiet morning grows pink and soft with the dew, almost as soft as my girl’s chin between my tired fingers. For now, we are not scared. I think it’s because I saw my friends, still, wired together on the couch we’ve split, playing games, lit by the television, still laughing and beautiful as though we were not in the middle of being eaten alive. That was the day’s first reminded of humanity. The second: my girl’s smile, still, remarkably sweet. And thank god the world has not forgotten us, if not so evident from the wind, how it prepares me. My flag of liberation dusting itself off in the breeze. Rest demanding itself. Rage demanding itself. The world, still here and soft with dew.”
