This is honestly my favorite set of maps I ever made. It's a three-part dungeon map set in the caves of an active volcano, with an ancient forgotten temple buried within. The design was inspired by Metroid and Dark Souls. 4k & 6k versions available on my patreon patreon.com/averypraxis
Mazteca Caves, the entrance of the dungeon starting in the northwest corner of the map and proceeding to Mazteca Depths to the east, and Faerenia Temple to the south. There are two paths to the depths, the southern-most path is blocked by a mass of enchanted roots that grow back as soon as they are cut down. To clear the roots, the party needs to delve into Faerenia Temple and destroy or remove the glowing blue orb, which will cause the roots to wither. The northern-most path to the Depths isn't blocked, but is much more difficult to get through, and one can only get so far in that direction. Mazteca Depths is the end of the dungeon and reaches closer to the heart of the volcano itself. Geological activity here is high, and the volcano's rumbling can sometimes cause cave-ins. There are two magic glowing orbs in this section of the dungeon that collects energy from the heat and trembling of the volcano, and can bestow immense boons to the party that collects them. However, collecting the energy held within these orbs will also cause the volcano to become unstable, and the party will have to race against time to escape the dungeon as lava begins to flow out from the eastern-most tunnel. This is the long-forgotten temple of Faerenia, which was built by the ancient Aarakocra thousands of years ago, now buried within the caves of Mazteca. In my homebrew setting of Edirna, the Aarakocra are a long-dead civilization, very much inspired by the ancient egyptians. There are still Aarakocra around today, but they have very little in common with their ancestors. Faerenia Temple was primarily used for funerary rites and mummification, particularly for fallen heroes and warriors of great renown, but not prestigious enough to be entombed in a pyramid.
