But knowing the state of rural healthcare, even if Whitaker was still on his parents' insurance it probably isn't very good. And as a hospital intern he most likely 1) doesn't get paid and 2) is required by the hospital to have insurance. Becoming a doctor is soooo expensive.

What I've heard from med students is that it's cheaper and better coverage to get Medicaid than school insurance. Unfortunately, whether or not med students can get Medicaid depends a lot on what state you're in and I don't know about PA.
