Every night this dude looks like he's partied even harder than the night before.

A new horror bookstore opened near me so I stopped by to support them.

Two of these books I found through my blusky feed, thanks to discovering @shortwavebooks.bsky.social and @willowcatelyn.bsky.social here. And then got an @datlow.bsky.social collection that's been on my want list.

QT this with someone you wish was still alive

This one devastated me more than any other "celeb" death. I still have "how would Scott tweet about this" thoughts every time some bullshit hits the news.

Banger of a week. Both Kurosawa films could end up in my best of year list.

Got my first bit of @slimyswampghost.bsky.social art...in the form of a plushie! Gotta find a place where this demon won't get beaten up by my cats so he's currently hiding in my perfume cabinet.

The Misadventures of Vince and Hick. Do you miss that 90s era of fun indie comedy crime capers? This film's got ya covered.

Bob Morgan's Just Going to Tell Some Stories. Exactly what it says on the tin. Learn about southern queer history and culture while admiring some wicked cool art. I'd listen to this guy tell stories for hours.

Crossword. Well acted drama that goes for the throat, with some clever puzzle usage as its central conceit. Keep an eye out for this one!

Good Night. Another great discovery of the fest. A woman gets to be the center of a criminal one-crazy-night anxiety ride. Ending really sold me.

Alan at Night. Holy shit. One of the best finds of the fest. Found footage horror fans, keep an eye out for this one.

Found footage fans should keep an eye out for Old Wounds by @stevenhughnelson.bsky.social when it comes out. Gets uncomfortable and legit creepy in moments while not going the typical route of these types of horror films. Likeable cast really sells this.

Other recs? @severinfilms.bsky.social's latest film history doc, this time about the S rating in Spanish film. Even if you are not as interested in watching the films being discussed, Severin's docs never miss and are always educational for horror fans. Really glad I got to see this!

@chattfilmfest.org is currently running its virtual fest, and it's been a blast. So far the one to beat has been the latest from @grenzfurthner.bsky.social. If you've seen any of his other work, you know what you're getting into. Absolutely wild.

Finally got to catch On Becoming a Guinea Fowl. Went in blind just knowing this was from the director of the excellent I Am Not A Witch and that it had good reviews. It's now my non-horror film to beat for 2025. A surreal, heavy watch, but I'm on board for future Rungano Nyoni features.

Got hooked on the @criticacclaim.bsky.social podcast and have been slowly working through the backlog. Finally checked out House of Hummingbird after hearing @witneyseibold.bsky.social's rave review and it's been a beautiful cinematic discovery. Glad this didn't pass me by.

I usually read my Fangorias well after I get them. But I had to read the Scott Wampler and @ericvespe.bsky.social report as extras on The Life of Chuck as soon as I got my copy. Just to get a little last of Wampler shenanigans. Miss his presence.

A rec for Korean horror fans! Bluebeard, a fun twisty serial killer thriller! I can't remember how it got on my radar, feels like the kind of thing I would have picked up off @colorsofthedark.bsky.social (and if not, hey, Deep Cuts rec from a listener here).

Also, I went restaurant searching while reading Rare Flavors, and turned up gold.

Had a double hitter of emotional graphic novels recently. @boum.bsky.social's beautiful story of a girl dealing with vision loss made me tear up. And Ram V and Filipe Andrade's lush story of a demon's culinary ambitions made me hungry. Some best reads here.

Got a surprise present in the form of a book I didn't even know existed!

Just watched Sumala, a very welcome new discovery of Indonesian horror. Put Makayla Rose Hilli in all the films. She's got a filmography that includes Joko Anwar and Timo Tjahanto, plays the lead monster here with a nasty glee, and she's only 12?! This kid rules.

If you listen to enough @colorsofthedark.bsky.social and @purecinemapod.bsky.social, you can sense that this film is uniquely @elrickane.bsky.social, as the film gives a sense of his cinematic appreciations without feeling derivative. A great vibes slow burn, glad I got to see it on a big screen.
