Totes did super work all day long in the city, carefully slowing down for any icy patches even in unfamiliar streets. Today was mostly about workshops & presentations, and she did get to run in her city park with a poodle friend. Tonight will be all about playing pouncey tennisballs #spiergorm

As I'm revisiting my personal guide dog lore, here's the Queen of Guide Dogs herself, Madame Pops, who was my first guide dog, always the star, whilst her successor Mr H waited politely in the wings. Ever the perfect gentleman
So, here are my first and my second Guide Dogs. Poppy, is in the foreground taking up most of the right hand side of the photograph. She's a light blonde Labrador retriever cross and has a liver pink nose. She was the worst behaved dog in the entire of Guide dog history, but also the best Guide ever. We roamed Europe and the backstreets of Dublin together in our younger days and we had the best fun ever. On the left hand side of the picture is her successor Harley, who guided me through early parenthood and grownup jobs and was always very proper And whom I will always love as my soulmate. They are both looking up at the camera with handsome, noble faces, hopeful and pleading Labrador eyes as only labradors can. They are beautiful and sweet and I miss them both

Totie follows in a proud and treasured lineage. Here's my 2nd guide dog, gentleman Harley,, playing Rosslaire tennisballs at dawn. I miss his judgemental but sartorial gaze daily.

I hope I can do this justice, an Irish East Coast beach at Dawn colours of hazy blue and sand, an empty curving beach with gentle blue green waves, and then in the four ground a very happy golden brown lanky retriever off duty guide dog, with a happy smile on his face and his very long tail wagging. He's wearing a spotty bandanna as he waits for his tennis ball to be thrown. Harley was my second guide dog, and like all my working dogs he retired with my family, but unfortunately passed away as a result of a heart condition only a few months after retiring. He was one in a million. loved his rules and was very careful with his affections but when he loved you he loved you beyond measure. This particular beach was his happy place and we went there a few times a year as a family on holiday. I always think about him this time of year, and was so blessed to have his gentle wise presence by my side for so many years.

Here's a happy little tongue out Totie, she's a happy little off duty black Labrador guide dog, wearing a red Christmas bandanna, and waiting for the squeaky green tennis ball in front of her to be thrown. She's in a green park and behind her is a grey wall and some foliage. There's a bit of graffiti on the wall and my various AI apps have told me it's Abstract images and letters, although one app said it's a little scatological. So enjoy that if you can see it.

That day when totes and I were crossing a road to the office, and heard another guide dog team at work. Turns out we had unexpectedly run into guide dog Tom, Totes' actual litter mate who happens to work around the corner.Cue much wrestling in the park for the long lost siblings#spéirgorm
UHere are two wonderful off duty Guide Dogs, who happened to come from the same litter. Both were born and bred in the UK, raised together in Scotland and then came over to Ireland as part of a wonderful UK/Ireland guide dog exchange program. And here they are working just yards away from each other in the middle of Dublin! How mad is that. Totes is a little black Labrador and her brother is yellow, they are having a good tussle in the grass

Today Toties has mostly been good and kind and responsible, and now plans to lie on the couch with all of her paws in the air and get some treats

Some Mondays are more Mondayish than others. Totes recommends belly rubs and dinner, and second dinner as an appropriate self care strategy

taxi refusal tonight, rare enough with taxi apps and better accountability. after work meeting in vibey area. it was dark, felt uneasy so opted for cab. 1st taxi refused us, he said he understood I was blind with a guide dog but drove off, 2nd driver was lovely as most Dublin taxi drivers are

Autumn walks with the very best company

Guide dog totes does appreciate a big drift of autumn leaves. she has been known to fake a need to poop, with her stiff legged bum wiggle to indicate same, so she can snuffle and make me miss my bus. just as well she is good, pretty and smart and deserves a little payment in kind now and then

Some days you might as well tippex out the word "don't" on the harness sign for all the notice some of our fellow commuters seem to take of it. And always at the busiest road crossings for some reason.

toties observing any front door Cummings and goings from the safety of her sofa today, just in case anyone tries to trick her into Saturday walkies.
A weekend guide dog upon her throne. Ridiculous Guide Dog and pigeons with fountain on a cold, (bloody freezing) day.
Here's our small little black Labrador guide dog Totes, in her blackberry grey and green jumper, because she does not like being shivery. A little break in the park between court appointments, and while she had been galumphing around the place quite enthusiastically only moments before this attentive sit, we neither of us noticed the pretty grey purple pigeon friends strutting about upon the rim of the stone fountain. I only picked them up after checking the picture with one of my blind AI apps, but clearly they did not mind our off duty antics. there are iron benches and iron railings around the little park, with it's little pointy conifers and Sun kissed city buildings behind. A blue sky above and a very cold day altogether

Seems winter has arrived, and definitely a raincoat day for Guide dog Totes, the first of my Guide Dogs who actually seems to enjoy wearing clothes. Because she's a wonderful little weirdo.

An impromptu lunchtime free run before the rain made this little guide dog exceptionally happy today. And she deserves all the muddy happy there is.

The death stare of a Sunday snoozing guide dog who has accidentally been awoken without good cause. For reference, the only good cause is dinner.

A long Friday of working at the courts and some home visit outreach for the best Totes. A well deserved weekend of mucky off-harness adventuring awaits for this one.

A work from home day for Totie so she will mostly be surveilling the garden for tasty puddy tats.

The magpies outside have alighted upon the roof, and are cackling loudly to summon their canine minion to deal with the neighbour cats who are pestering the chicken coop, which makes Totes very cross indeed
