Spotted the first snowdrop 𓇢𓆸 in our allotment kitchen garden yesterday. The late winter transition into early spring. Still brisk out, but change is in the air. #earlysignsofspring °˖𓍢ִ໋🍃✿°.💚⋆

I save eggshells, dry them, then grind them into a fine powder to add back into the soil as part of long-term soil health. A simple organic source of calcium, especially useful for tomatoes, strawberries and leafy greens. #SoilHealth 🥚🌱

Week three and the seedling is starting to stretch. Delicate and a little spindly, but growing now, extending upwards and settling into its next phase.

A late addition: courgette and plum cake with toasted walnuts, baked last summer and nearly forgotten. Courgettes from the garden, Victoria plums from a friend’s orchard. Served with plum jam and tea. Seemed a shame not to share it. #BakeSky 🍰🥒💌🧸🍽️

Amsterdam Forcing 3 and Paris Market Atlas sown into a loose mix of topsoil, sharp sand and sieved compost, with a handful of fish, blood & bone worked into the top. New pot every 3 weeks for succession. 🥕

Leek and potato potage. A winter soup, smooth and comforting. Gruyère stirred in at the end for a touch of richness. Served with homemade sourdough. Nothing fancy, just comfort in a bowl. ♡🫕・₊✧ 🥔🍃

I’m growing a range of chillies this year, from mild to blisteringly hot 🔥 I’ll be tracking this one - easily the fiercest - in a weekly post as it grows. Just a seed in a small pot for now, with a wooden label.

Started sowing seeds in the heated propagator today to get a head start on the season - a few aubergine types, sweet peppers, and a range of chillies from mild to seriously hot. Looking forward to seeing which ones sprout first. 🌶️🍆🍆 #KitchenGarden

Stopped by a local farm shop for Seville oranges. The kitchen is about to smell of bitter citrus, whisky and sugar. Seville orange season has begun. 🍊🟠🧡

Bangers and mash made with Yukon Golds and a hybrid courgette mash, grown by our allotment neighbour Thor Davidson, head chef at Luigi’s. Country-style sausages, proper gravy, and kitchen garden generosity on a plate. Real comfort. #ComfortFood 👩‍🍳🍽️🤌🏻
