I remember reading national review 45 years ago and realizing that white Christianity in America has always defined itself in strong opposition to Jesus, substituting social Darwinism and Nietzchean will to power. Trump is not the “daddy” of this but its great Great *40 grandson.

I remember watching the apprentice decades ago and thinking there’s something seriously wrong with this guy. Talking in non sequiters. He’s gotten slower but the madness was there from the start. Likely since he was 10.

I hope you’re right. But it appears that 35% of the population believe that Europe is the “enemy” (and culturally it is much more distant than Russia). Fingers crossed

Actually Trump has it right. “Patriot” and “terrorist” are emotive words. They signify nothing other than approval or disapproval. So by definition for Trump a patriot is one he approves and a terrorist is one he disapproves. Most use those terms the same way. Who knew Trump was a semiotic genius

There have been several varieties of conservatism historically. As with any concept. One strain has focused on race. Or religion. Another with tradition. Or adult maturity and responsibility. Or the worship of vice and disgust at virtue. Searching for the “true” anything is a fools errand

I do think people are failing to understand that anarchism and nihilism when it comes to norms and laws is a long standing element in the culture. It separates the “winners” from the “losers”. Hence the doom. Trump is not an outlier. He is a fulfilment.
