Depends on whether I simply didn't care for it, or if I actively hated it. For example, I despised "The Idiot" by Elif Batuman and felt compelled to review it, but most of the time I won't bother if I don't have strong feelings about it

Totally. You can love something and still recognize it's flawed. Or the reverse, you can acknowledge something is brilliant and still not like it. Personal taste is completely separate from an objective assessment
