this is the first step toward sharia in Turkey, a direct attack on the secular democratic unity of the state. anti-government protests are rising in Turkey day by day, but it’s not enough to stop the government since they hold the majority in parliament.

at first it looks like this will only affect us as a community, but that’s not the case. the term “immorality” will be added to the bill—and what is considered immoral is intentionally left vague.

and through this bill, we can be charged with dismantling the traditional Turkish family. there are countless ways to punish LGBTI+ people under the new bill.

i can be easily reported for acting against my biological gender and jailed for three years. people who are same-sex and visibly seen as a queer couple can be jailed for five years. LGBTI+ people are already being accused of degenderizing society,

a radical islamist party, HUDAPAR, which has ties with the Hizbullah terrorist organization, proposed a bill to punish primarily the trans and queer communities for simply existing in society. since i’m trans and haven’t transitioned yet, people can target me easily since i’m perceived as a man.
