Something else was made official with this graphic: I DESPISE THIS NEW ART DIRECTION WITH A (very) PURPLE PASSION! IT’S HIDEOUS!!!!!!
🚨🇦🇹 OFFICIAL: 35 countries will participate in the #Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna.

The 70th anniversary edition will feature the fewest number of participants since 2003, and the largest boycott in Eurovision history as 5 broadcasters withdraw over Israel's inclusion.

Also, are we going to have a flurry of news stories every time some random Eurovision winner posts to their social media that they want to return their trophy? Stories that no one outside the bubble is going to pay a lick of attention to?

Isn't there actual news happening somewhere? Like in Gaza?

So he hasn't gotten outraged at the EBU between 1994 and now?

I'm sure he feels strongly about this, but I'm struggling to see how this gesture is helpful, other than winning brownie points from the pro-Palestine folks, and looking petty to those outside the bubble.

OK Nemo. We get it.

Unpopular opinion: This is beginning to seem like it’s not primarily about Israel in #Eurovision.
📦 On its way to Geneva.

I've figured out what "6-7" means.

It means "Tootie".

(I doubt there's anyone that follows me that's going to get this reference. But I'm right.)

"These five withdrawals make it the largest boycott in Eurovision’s 70-year history."

Who's gonna tell 'em?
Eurovision looks doomed after its latest Israel controversy
I hate the idea of what should be a celebration leaving us all so conflicted and divided.

How about if Finland has a really popular song where the lead vocal live mic is inaudible for the first 30 seconds? You gonna "call it out?"
What if Sweden or UK shows up with another staging that requires several minutes to set up?
Hey, what happens if Italy brings another harmonica?

"we will ensure that all participating broadcasters respect the rules of the competition and if they don’t you have a personal pledge from me, we will not tolerate it and call it out."

"Call it out"? Well that'll show 'em! Israel won't dare step out of line now.

Useless #Eurovision predictions #11:

Festival da Canção: Acts that don't announce a boycott of Eurovision will seriously ding their career prospects, BUT the pro-Israel televote will overwhelm the anti-Israel televote, giving the win to the best of the non-boycotters. Hey Alexa, order more popcorn!

It appears a lot of them speak Spanish. Sigh ........
Useless #Eurovision predictions #4:

Social media will be inundated with fake accounts trying to artificially stoke the anger and turn the un-fans into full-on raging anti-Semites. THIS WILL WORK.

They're allowed to do this. And the other EBU members are allowed to say "no". A lobbying effort doesn't force anyone to do anything.

It would be good if everyone could focus on legitimate arguments rather than throwing everything at the wall and seeing what sticks.

How Israel avoided Eurovision ouster and the diplomatic push that changed the vote
Israel’s delegation mounted an intensive lobbying effort in Geneva, backed by a special team formed by President Herzog, as the EBU advanced new rules critics said targeted Israel

Interval act: Someone who doesn't follow the news, probably doing a musical saw solo or something. A name performer would be insane to go anywhere near this thing.

A few longstanding "traditions" will be quietly retired this year, including the flag parade.

Useless #Eurovision predictions #7:

The stagings this year are going to be BANANAS.

Related: Unable to afford to piss off any more broadcasters, the EBU's rule enforcement will become even more ludicrously inconsistent. The smart staging folks will plan on this. Lots of 2+ minute stage setups.

Useless #Eurovision predictions #6:

Quality of the entries: Not so good. The talent pool has been sharply reduced. There will be only a few viable contenders to battle Israel for first place.

The protests in Vienna won't be all that, but the protests at some of the broadcasters' HQs will be epic.

Useless #Eurovision predictions #5:

Nat'l Selection season will be a sh*tshow. The winning acts will be under immense pressure to not go, and many will decide not to.

At least one country will have to withdraw because their act bailed on them at the last minute.

Fansites have a decision to make. A few will shut down, but most won't.

r/eurovision will be forced to ban all talk of boycotts, after the sub becomes totally unusable.

Useless #Eurovision predictions #2:

Protests? There will be some. But it's Austria, and non-Austrians aren't going to spend that kind of money just to march around screeching for the cameras for a couple days.

Tel Aviv 2027, unless their song is garbage. This will NOT kill the Contest.

Useless #Eurovision predictions #1:

Ratings will drop due to the missing countries, but not as much as the fan community thinks.

Ticket sales, on the other hand, will crater. The organizers will not have seen this coming. It will be hugely entertaining watching them freak out about it.

I will *not* be boycotting #Eurovision, and I believe it's a waste of time to do so.

If you feel inclined to unfollow me for this, I understand. I know some of you will.

But as I've said many times before, I knew it was a snake when I took it in. I find today's decisions totally on-brand.
