The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) was created as a private nonprofit corporation under the Public Broadcasting Act of 1967. CPB funding helps to support public television and radio stations through National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).
Federal appropriations for CPB are made through the congressional appropriations process. Generally, the level of funding for the CPB account is set two years in advance. The most recent appropriation was approved for FY 2025 and it provided $535 million for CPB through 2027.
Like you, I understand that public television in Nebraska provides helpful educational programming and local news. Please be assured, I will closely monitor this issue. Ultimately, this funding is subject to the House and Senate’s appropriations processes, which will continue to advance for FY 2026 in the weeks and months ahead.
