Nagisa just...fascinates me. A character who's present for 2 story arcs, a corporeal ghost, predecessor to a recurring bit of gender play that would be repeated in Ranma ½, and (in my opinion) probably a trans lesbian or enby who Rumiko couldn't give the words to describe herself.

...which is a quality the manga associates with femininity! A running gag in UY is that the typically feminine human girls are the physically strongest characters, in contrast with Lum's barely-clothed alien powers being coupled with poor physical strength.

...live as she chooses, Nagisa is already dead, a jibakurei who attains physical form at the end of the intro arc, but plainly shown to be susceptible to wards against spirits.
Ryūnosuke is a strong fighter in a raw & wild way, but Nagisa is restrained in spite of "his" greater strength...

it hasn't become apparent at the point the anime is at, but the manga makes it VERY clear that this is all consensual. The demons can't hold the princess if she wants to get out, whether by desperation or just restlessness. She's not only too strong, but her restraints are usually just aesthetic.

reading through this thread made me want to go stare longingly at my favorite brutalist structure, 111 Main Street in White Plains, NY. Maybe over the weekend.

one thing I appreciate about the internet is how easy it is now to look up more pictures of a weird animal you saw once. As a kid in the early 90s I got exposed to a single image of a lowland streaked tenrec on a CD encyclopedia and couldn't find ANYTHING elsewhere. Top quality little beaſte.
