Proud dad, resident of Lewiston, and Blue Dog. Raised in Leeds and trained in the Marines. U.S. Congressman putting Mainers first.
Pregnancy and childbirth are normal. So insurance should treat it like any other essential care and fully cover it.

My new bipartisan bill would eliminate cost-sharing for maternity care — making it easier for Mainers to start and grow their families without fear of huge medical bills or debt.

Foreign money shouldn't be able to crowd out the voices of Americans in state and local elections, but that’s exactly what current campaign finance laws allow.

My bipartisan bill with Rep. Fitzpatrick would make Maine's ban on foreign donations to ballot initiatives the law of the land.

Prior generations ensured the federal lands managed by the National Park Service were protected for us. Now it’s our turn to step up.

I'm backing the Save our Parks Act to reinstate any National Park employees targeted by recent mass layoffs — and to maintain an adequate workforce moving forward.

I'm glad the President's recent executive order acknowledged how Maine lobstermen have been under siege against federal mismanagement, namely by the use of incomplete and biased studies to justify catastrophic regulations.

Better rulemaking requires working with — not against — fishermen.

Since the founding of our country, more than a million brave men and women have sacrificed their lives to defend the idea of America.

I’m spending today thinking about them — as well as the principles they believed in so deeply.

The GOP can't secure the votes to take away health care from millions & cut taxes for the rich. So they’re looking to win over members from rich states by raising the SALT cap.

The biggest winner? The top 1%. Instead of making the bill better, they’re just making it worse.

Arbitrary time limits shouldn't cost Gold Star spouses their survivor benefits, but I've been told directly by Mainers that's exactly what's happening.

So I've written a bipartisan bill to ensure the government lives up to its responsibility to get Gold Star families the full help they deserve.

If the GOP takes health care away from millions of Americans, they should have to reckon with the fallout.

Accountability requires data, so I've introduced an amendment to collect hard figures on how many lose coverage, see health outcomes decline or even die if the GOP's plans become law.

Rural hospitals are struggling to stay afloat as is: I’m completely opposed to the House GOP’s proposed changes to Medicaid that could hurt hospitals even further.

Air Force One is host to some of the most sensitive conversations in our government. This jet poses the risk of foreign surveillance and influence at the highest level of our government, to say nothing of the propriety of accepting it. 1/2

Each day Congress ignores our soaring national debt, the future of Social Security and Medicare is put at greater risk.

The House GOP’s reconciliation plan could add more than $6 trillion to the national debt — a reckless move when we should be shrinking deficits, not growing them.
May 16, 2025 at 5:58 PM
Congress doesn’t need to take health care away from seniors to fix the national debt — let’s start by ending tax breaks for large, multinational corporations that ship jobs overseas.

The House GOP’s reconciliation plan is full of the wrong priorities.

SNAP helps put food on the table for one in five Maine kids.

Many of them are at risk of losing those meals under the GOP’s proposed changes to the way SNAP is funded. Congress should protect their access to food, not limit it.

With the highest median age in the country, Maine stands a lot to lose from the House GOP’s proposed changes to Medicaid.

Gutting senior care to fund tax cuts for the wealthiest households and corporations is always a bad idea.

If you’re someone who works on the water, the Coast Guard wants your feedback on proposed changes to navigational aids.

Hundreds of thousands of Mainers rely on SNAP + Medicaid to afford groceries & health care.

So I’m working to force a vote on the Hands Off Medicaid and SNAP Act — a bill blocking cuts to either program in the reconciliation process as the GOP looks for ways to fund tax cuts for the rich.

Thanks Maine Maritime Academy for the invitation to help honor the Class of 2025.

People often talk about the leaders of tomorrow, but I got to meet a group of young people — full of talent, ambition, and clear pursuit of purpose — ready to make their mark on the world today.

Thanks to @iamunion.bsky.social for the warm welcome at your Legislative Conference yesterday.

Whether we’re protecting the right to organize, standing up for American shipbuilders, or supporting the first modern lobstermen’s union in Maine, I’m always proud to stand with the Machinists!

It was an honor to speak with the selfless folks at the Disabled American Veterans Conference.

I’ve seen their dogged advocacy for others firsthand, and am grateful for this organization's commitment to helping veterans heal, readjust to civilian life, and get whatever else they need.

By allowing independents to vote in primaries, Maine has ensured that all citizens can have their voices heard throughout the entire political process.

The Let America Vote Act will bring this victory for democracy to the entire country.

From my family to yours, Happy Easter. Enjoy time with your loved ones today.

🧵 I appreciate the President's willingness to address the longstanding mismanagement of America's fisheries. Today's executive order covers the exact points I wrote to the administration about last week — and have been fighting to fix for the last six years in Congress.

Had a great discussion and Q&A yesterday about our political moment, today’s policy debates, and the future of the Democratic Party in rural places.

Thanks to @colbycollege.bsky.social for hosting and to the 150+ students who came to listen and ask great questions.

I really enjoyed the substantive, meaningful conversation at Penobscot Valley Senior College, where we discussed my work in Congress, current policy debates around trade and the SAVE Act, and what we can do to fix our broken politics. Thanks for having me!

It was overwhelming to hear the stories of families who’ve had loved ones held hostage by Hamas for the last year and a half.

They’ve endured the unbearable. It’s long past time for ALL the hostages to return home.
