The constant parade of people masking their lives in glamor and artificiality combined with the vastness of social media and the internet creates feelings of isolation. All these people seem to be doing better than you, have more connections, even if they're just shallow. It sucks tbh. #J355

I think it really depends. A lot of people these days aren't as good at in person, so interacting with them online ends up being more fulfilling than in person since that's where they feel more comfortable. In-person relationships can be more fulfilling, but seem to be rarer and rarer.

honestly, more anxious.

The connections they're getting often aren't deep enough to provide emotional benefits of friends, so anxiety rises up because they're worried everyone else is feeling connected with each other but them. Shallow connections that should be real but aren't = self doubt

I think personal branding exists as a symptom of our society's glorification of consumption and the individual as consumer. We turn our very perception into something to be devoured. #J355

I think it gives narcissists a bigger platform. NPD's cause is unknown, but perceived to be a combination of trauma, genetics, and psychological factors. The existence of social media alone doesn't rapidly change these enough to create narcissists. #J355

I think that the desire for belonging combined with the instant gratification of social media is conducive to malignant narcissists. They can quickly shift the frameworks of belonging to suit their needs, with increased awareness of it allowing them to manipulate others with it. #j355
