Before Nov 2025, I have never drawn anything other than stick figures. Meaning, I don't already have enough time in multiple styles to make a lasting choice. Daily pixels has helped expand that though.

I have already started learning a little GML code but specifically for platformer style and I have been freaking out trying to commit. Platformer vs top down rpg is a very big jump in logic and design. I know its too early to decide, but spending months learning the wrong thing is scary.

I originally workshopped the game as a platformer and the idea still fits into that framework. However, after forcing myself to draw more through pixel art challenges I was doubting the choice because top down allows for more details in front/back and so on.

Honestly, the comparison of the game types is right where I needed them. I keep looking for guides or advice vids and they all focus on how to do the thing and not what the thing really loses compared to the other choice. The feedback is really good and laid out realistic expectations.

The part 1 piece did feel more special when I made it and I think it showed in the things I added. I was going to add moving clouds, animate the flowers, and animate the fountain too. I like the thoughts on the stone platform that could have been natural but looked too man made. Good eye!

This was all really good and welcomed feedback. Some of the things you pointed out like the fountain, I almost did outline properly and for some reason didn't commit. I appreciate you calling out a lot of things that I was on the fence about. I needed this perspective. Thank you!

That is not a bad idea. Someone suggested mock ups but referring to games too. I could select a few to do in both art styles to save brain space for the game style I commit to in GameMaker.

Had to look up parallax, but that does make sense. It did feel easier to set up the backdrop. Even if I wanted to make that sudden cut-off at the water go away, I could add a layer of rocks that appear closer. Top down down perspectives felt less intuitive to me.

My Part 2 is this topdown. I feel like I like this more just because of the colors, but don't know which of these I honestly did better on naturally to know what I would have a better time committing to in the long run.
