I totally hear you. Most of the dive tender boats for the Navy are ancient and need replacing. One thing at a time though... this is a good start.
Plus, there is another aspect to this. The Navy needs crews for the AOPS, so decommissioning the MCDVs frees up personnel.

30+ years is pretty darn good for any ship, but it's low when compared to how long Canada typically keeps ships in operation. The MCDV's have been harder to support as they age, so divesting them and focusing on the new Canadian Continental Defence Corvette project is a good idea in my opinion.
