Cyclone location vs Dubbo at 5am NSW time this morning. Looks like wind speed is pretty variable around Dubbo at the moment.
MetEye (Australian Bureau of Meteorology product) screenshot showing the east coast of Australia from Sydney to Mackay, with wind speeds and directions at 5am NSW time today. The past track of Cyclone Alfred, its present location, and predicted future paths, are overlaid as well, offshore and currently east of Brisbane. There is a clear effect where the closer to the cyclone you are on land or close offshore, the higher the wind speed. The chart looks mottled around Dubbo, suggesting turbulent and uneven wind patterns. But the cyclone is still nearly 100km from Dubbo, even though the resulting low may pester it next week.

Taping windows FACTS: False - this will not prevent your window from breaking. Useful tip - tape a plastic sheet to the edge of the window frame on the inside to reduce wind-driven rainwater coming into the home. Open windows MYTH: Open windows on the lee side and close them on the windward side of the home. Open windows FACTS: False - this would require you to continually monitor the wind direction and would put you at risk of injury if debris breaks a door or window. Useful tip - shelter in a small room with no or small windows to keep safe from injury. Debris screens MYTH: Debris screens are only needed on the side of the home facing the ocean. Debris screens FACTS: False - wind directions often change during a cyclone. Useful tip - install debris screens on all windows. Refer to debris screens Whirlybird MYTH: Whirlybirds (small root top ventilators) help keep your roof on. My housemate travelled to the US for the first time a few years ago and got caught up in a stampede from a mass shooting that left her with a permanent injury. Bad luck but not very bad luck.
