I don’t want to be reduced to someone who is filled with joy at loss of life, i don’t want to celebrate murder. And we cant let the world do that to us, to break us down like that. To make us lesser. But i wouldn’t blame you for feeling relieved or indifferent. So thats where I’m at. Its tiring.

We have a choice, to be reduced to rabid spectators filled with jubilation at the death of someone, or to see things as they are. Ultimately this is a tragedy. That the world is so fucked up that its come to this. We need to make change so that it never has to come to this.

Compassion is a practice, a muscle, that you train. In cases such as these its best to practice. Nobody can blame you if you fail, its difficult. Compassion needs to extend inward has well, but this isn’t the regular type of ‘self love’ in pop psyche. This is more fundamental.

Your fears, anger, frustration, is valid. But that CEO was human too. So where does that leave us? How do we reconcile this? I think Nietzsche’s quote on gazing into the abyss fits nicely. Compassion doesn’t just mean something you extend to others. Its a mindset and reality within yourself.

It doesn’t mean we have to pretend we aren’t appalled by the injustice and suffering of this world. Compassion is understanding that he too was sullied by the world. A product of his environment. He too was human. I could never invalidate somebody’s genuine anger.
