His father’s bouncers would drop off “huge bags,” “stacks and stacks” of money… ?!?

Yes, tetanus. I jumped in the Charles in 1988 (1987?) to get a motor a friend had dropped. I smelled for three days despite a very thorough shower. Now herons and cormorants live and eat in the river.

IDK who created this sign, but it’s wicked Boston!

Haha that was me for decades. Just don’t tell them you had pancakes for breakfast because it makes them jealous/mad. 😏

2/2 A friend once hit a bicyclist who said - when I ran to help him - he thought he could get through the street before we got there. Coming the wrong way on a one way street. 33 years later, I remember how scary it was to see him fly over the hood. I don’t want to be on either side of a crash!

I’m sorry about your friend’s father. There are way too many stories like that.

When I’m biking or walking, I do what I can so decrease the likelihood of being hit. And when I’m driving, I appreciate people doing what they can to be visible and predictable. 1/2

It’s not easy, to be sure, especially in states like mine (MA), which allow tinted windows. And it’s not possible if the driver is looking down. But if you can, it helps. I honestly believe that most people don’t want to run someone over.

Life-long city bike commuter here. This piece has a lot of excellent advice, including some that isn’t in much advice (like making eye contact with drivers). I don’t think it absolves drivers; it just advises bikers & peds. There are plenty of crappy pieces to complain about.

It’s a confederate hat!

100%. It’s all about our data - “our” in the present tense only.

Ah. I haven’t read it in decades. Joyce’s use of “queer” is, of course, quite different than current usage.
May 9, 2025 at 4:49 PM
In what way do you mean “queer”? It’s a complicated word.

Oh I’m so sorry. The early days of COVID really sucked, but most of all for people who were dying or their loved ones who could not be together.

That’s an interesting take. My first impression of the movie was that it was a tourist guide to the US.

Fun idea. There was a Boston Phoenix newspaper for decades.

Well deserved! Hope you sweep!

I’m so sorry. Wishing your family the best as you navigate this situation.

Is there ever one reason? For anything, even needing to pee (could be kidney malfunction not just what you drank and when!)? I kind of wish I were able to believe conspiracy theories because it might be comforting.

“Please describe” … please understand they aren’t operating under the same “rules”!

That’s a great story/oral history. Sure sounds plausible.
