This is an excellent hill to defend! You are 1000% correct. Some of these can be options - if you have students who like reading logs and such - but they should be optional, not required.

Just finished Graveyard Shift by M. L. Rio - very very similar vibes (and slightly plot) to What Moves the Dead, but a modern setting. Must read for anyone in academia!

Reading The Night Guest by Hildur Knútsdóttir. It’s a deliciously weird little horror novella.
