The apartment market is also balanced, with a 7.3-percent vacancy rate as of the second quarter of 2025, compared with 7.0 percent a year ago, and the average rate rent rose 2 percent to $2,148 (CoStar Group). The vacancy rate rose because only 87 percent of the 13,550 units delivered during the past 12 months were absorbed. Absorption and new deliveries during the past 12 months were at their highest levels since the corresponding period in 2019. The vote makes Medford the third municipality in the country to choose to divest public funds from companies that invest in military weapons after Dearborn, Michigan, and Portland, Maine, did so last year. Dearborn City Council voted to divest from companies providing military equipment or weapons to Israel in October 2024. Meanwhile, the Portland City Council voted to divest from companies involved in weapons sales and other business in Israel in September 2024.

Recently criticised for saying "when the boot of the NYPD is on your neck, it's been laced by the IDF," Skydio is just another example that shows he's right. If he has the courage of his convictions, he could do worse than use his powers as mayor to shut down the NYPD's Skydio deal.
