I personally consider it a bubble so I can properly sleep at night, and let myself open up to the rather likely reality that it isn't a bubble every now and then, when I need to think about politics, or when someone doing something with AI is brought up.

... might disappear overnight, just to name the most unavoidable effects.

The biggest problem with AI wouldn't be if it's a bubble, but if it isn't one.

that it'll change the world for the worse.

Pretty much any job might be at risk due to the advent of AI, the military might no longer need the loyalty of combatants to commit their atrocities, and the levers of power that common people hold over the government to protect democracy...

Thus, realistically, we're in a superposition of it either being a bubble, or it being the real deal and being something that will change the world forever.

The problem is, it doesn't take a genius to see that if it changes the world (more than it already has in this age of misinformation),

On one hand, AI looks like a bubble, and acts a bit like a bubble on the economic scale.

On the other hand, tons of very important people are investing in it like it'll conqueror the world for them. And it is rather undoubtable that AI is progressing as time goes on.

That Republicans might genuinely be incompetent enough for that is now my only hope.

Thank you for mentioning it. With luck it'll be what allows me to sleep tonight.

I was incredibly depressed a year ago when I realized that nobody was challenging Schumer in the New York senate democratic primaries for my district.

If this keeps up till the next election cycle, then utter lack of political experience or not, I'm going to challenge him myself!

... instead of Youtube or X, or even Bluesky, which will use algorithms to show you want you want instead, without any conscious input from you at all.
September 15, 2025 at 10:59 PM
And if your real point is that reddit gives people what they want without allowing them to "recognize" what it is, I have news for you, since at least reddit forces you to personally click into another subreddit in order to narrow in on your tastes...
September 15, 2025 at 10:58 PM
So your argument is essentially:

"Reddit is too good at giving people what they want."

and

"People should be holding themselves back from achieving what they subconsciously want and instead force themselves to change as people first."

I bet if you tracked my comments from oldest to newest tonight as well, you could even track how my despair has been steadily creeping in, and how I've been growing more and more negative.

Whatever. I cant continue.

I wish.

I've been writing in a passionate frenzy for like an hour now.

It's the middle of the night. Almost morning. And I did not plan to get into these battles. I've been holding off on taking a shower for ages now.

It would've been really nice if I had just been a robot this entire time.

The thing is, I KNOW that it's people with that mentality that caused Trump to win the presidency not even a full year ago, and for the rest of the Left to assume that they need to go further Right to swing more of the vote.

Vote against the lesser evil in your PRIMARIES. That's what they're for.
August 21, 2025 at 9:22 AM
"Great Men" are obviously a myth.

It's a myth that helps to inspire evil men to stand up against other evil men though, so frankly, I don't think we should discourage it too harshly.

In hard times like this, the only thing to be glad about is to stay informed and to not have your morals irreparably break.
August 21, 2025 at 9:15 AM
I'm getting this message a lot.

Clearly I've stepped in a circle that overwhelmingly disagrees with me.

This sort of interaction needs to happen though. Otherwise tons of idiots won't even realize was the full spectrum of opinions look like.
August 21, 2025 at 9:11 AM
"Turned on Stalin"

Critically, they actually helped him and sent him war supplies until the greater evil was dealt with though.

You don't have to even go that far. Couldn't you just agree with Gavin in his hatred for Trump and then just not vote for him in your primaries?
August 21, 2025 at 9:09 AM
Then you're alone for now, I suppose.

Maybe we can all laugh with each other in the afterlife after the republican suicide cult kills us all.
August 21, 2025 at 9:05 AM
Even if Newsom was as bad as Trump on those issues (which I highly doubt). Getting behind him on some issues just to slap him in the face about others IS and WILL always be my plan when it comes to any politician.

Not even Washington himself deserves unfiltered backing.
August 21, 2025 at 9:00 AM
They keep getting more evil after the Greater Evil wins, because the lesser evils think that being kinda evil is actually an ok thing and will still be popular. And everything trends towards evil (specifically greed) until evil is sufficiently pushed against.
August 21, 2025 at 8:53 AM
She's afraid her morals will break at the slightest twist. Thus, she cant bare to so much as face the wind.

Brittle is the right word.

I could almost maybe use the word Naive, but that might be assuming too much.
August 21, 2025 at 8:47 AM
Maybe it's because despite being evil and thus setting themselves up to benefit more from their position, the Greater Evil wins more than half the time anyway because a certain portion of the population refuse to vote against them.
August 21, 2025 at 8:44 AM
Apparently your moral convictions are too brittle to bare even the most fundamental nuance.

... Or your just a filthy republican bot. This happens to be exactly what I'd image they'd do.
August 21, 2025 at 8:39 AM
TLDR Lesser evil going after greater evil should always be celebrated wholeheartedly.

It is exactly what they all should do, and precisely the sort of thing that we should encourage the more vehemently.
August 21, 2025 at 8:35 AM
I'm not about to vote for Newsom in any primaries, nor encourage anyone else doing so by any means, but if I have to rally behind a bad person to oppose someone I know as being much worse, I will.

And moreover, I'd even say that doing so is the only morally correct thing to do.
