Had an awesome muffuletta there

Had a memorable dinner there too. Excellent!

Not a good take.

Sorry! Other side of the recipe now added!

Ack! Forgot the rest!

Sour Cream Apple Pie: unique and incredibly delicious. An up-to-date version of an old recipe from my mother that called for canned apples! It’s always a favorite.

I disagree with treating whether Trump is gloating as something that matters. Winning elections matters much more. BTW, I agree dems should have held out longer and I agree they stepped on the enthusiasm of their own base. I’m just hoping it won’t matter much
November 11, 2025 at 4:53 PM
Yes, but they often gloat over stupid or evil things, so that’s a poor metric. How about, did the shutdown enhance or hurt the Ds midterm electoral chances? What effect did ending it now have?

I’m not suggesting this logic is animating those who caved, but it could work out. It’s also possible that additional pain (SNAP, air travel) would have brought more blame for the Rs, but not sure how much.
November 10, 2025 at 6:29 AM
I would prefer fight, but I do wonder if it doesn’t matter in the end because the Rs will be blamed for ACA premium spikes and they already look hateful on SNAP. The House would likely not approve premium subsidies even if the Senate did, but again, they’re already responsible.

True, though the conservative media ecosystem is very effective at highlighting extreme comments and defining them as mainstream. We need effective counter-messaging. Effective policies (unfortunately) are not enough.

I think what he really means in climate doomerism, which I agree has been a messaging problem. There’s so much you can say on infrastructure investment for resilience against hurricanes and wildfires that resonates locally.
November 2, 2025 at 4:22 PM
Yglesias is terrible on this, mainly because “climate” covers a lot of topics and approaches and he doesn’t distinguish them. He speaks to moving away from “all of the above” on energy, but the energy argument can readily be pitched as lower prices and infrastructure investment.

Or will it be crypto? Or both?
October 30, 2025 at 6:19 PM
This lack of distinction between “government” and specific agencies, which is further clouded by the lack of distinction between congress and executive branch agencies, is very troubling and I think a key contributor to this result. We need better public education about how government works!

Jesus that’s bad. WTF?
October 20, 2025 at 1:38 AM
Straw man rather than analysis
September 28, 2025 at 3:48 PM
Another reductive and simplistic argument. You can oppose the actions but you need to do so with counter-proposals and good messaging, which the Ds don’t have now. You can’t simply say what Trump is doing is bad and his followers are bad too. And where’s the 5% come from, anyway?
September 28, 2025 at 3:46 PM
Wait, I’m confused. Are there actually Abundance people defending what the Trump Administration has done to scientific research?
September 14, 2025 at 3:50 PM
It doesn’t mean he isn’t wrong sometimes and shouldn’t be criticized, but you could argue with his points instead of making allusions to race/class. Or is that really what you think the problem is?
September 11, 2025 at 4:25 PM
That’s completely fair. So now, what’s with the grouping of (particularly) Ezra in some class of pundit/podcasters with him rather than just criticizing his points? I’ll lay my cards on the table - I agree with Ezra on most things and find him generally to be thoughtful and articulate.
September 11, 2025 at 4:23 PM
Thanks for clarifying. Totally agree he should not be praised. I didn’t get the sense they were praising the message at all. But let me ask, isn’t it the message you are decrying and not the means of delivery? I see 1A tensions here
September 11, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Isn’t this the same argument people have been making about liberal academics? I’d like a little more analysis and less snark please
September 11, 2025 at 3:31 PM
Seriously? How sanctimonious you are! You can hate everything Charlie Kirk ever said and still defend free speech rights and persuasion, which is what Newsom and Klein are doing. Kirk doesn’t deserve to be lionized (flag at half staff in PA) but I think your snarky criticism is unhelpful
