If you are using a virtual tabletop you could discuss with your players the option to make the program roll for everyone automatically. This is the fastest solution and can be done at any moment but it takes a potentially fun roll away from the players. 🧵#4

Rolling a die for each enemy can be time consuming, especially if the encounter is spontaneous and you couldn't prepare their initiative ahead of time. Consider using an average roll result for these actors to speed up the process. 🧵#3

Ask your players to roll for initiative at the start of each session and/or at the end of each combat scene. Use the scores in the next encounter. 🧵#2

Distances in theatre of the mind playstyle can be hard to imagine. If players are forced to move for more than one turn, try to segment the movement into distinct zones (corridor, bedroom, staircase etc.) to create a better mental picture. 🧵6/x

In Dungeons&Dragons5, the Opportunity Attack mechanic and cost of Disengage can lead to fights where combatants are "glued" to eachother. Tighter spaces will encourage this, while more open arenas will help avoid it. 🧵5/x

In Pathfinder2e action economy, a simple Stride is a very powerful tool. Having enough space for players and enemies to be able to reposition will create more dynamic flanking. 🧵4/x

Small, cramped combat maps where enemies can reach the players very quickly, can feel extra tense, especially for the players used to the safety of the backlines. 🧵3/x

When an enemy is far away, instead of a few "dead turns" of just moving, give the players things to do. Cover opportunities, multiple paths to chose from, obstacles etc. make movement more engaging. 🧵2/x
