Text: getting my master's degree. Earning my Master’s Degree in Instructional Systems was a game-changer. I think this degree is more valuable than an MBA, because it taught me to identify and close human performance gaps, vs. concentrating on P&L statements. To improve performance, you have to understand the root cause of what’s causing problems. The solution could be training, but it could also be better management, incentives, or tools. Getting laid off from my first job. Early in my career, I faced an unexpected challenge: I was laid off from my first job. Just 11 months after I started! It was a toughexperience, but it turned out to be a turning point. That moment pushed me into sysadmin roles at very interesting companies. Had to go outside to talk to them cuz I couldn't hear. Need to really work on that.
