Anja Reserve, Madagascar: this reserve was created in 1999 to preserve the habitat of the ring-tailed lemur. It is home to more than 30 groups of lemurs, with 15-20 lemurs in each group.

Every Wednesday, the Zebu Market takes place in Ambalavao. It is the largest Zebu Market in Madagascar outside of Antananarivo, and one of these big guys can be bought for about $200.

Antananarivo, Madagascar: The Queen's Palace on top of the highest hill of the city, dating from the 17th century. The entire palace complex burned down in 1995 under very mysterious circumstances and only reopened in 2023 after extensive renovations.

Ibarra, northern Ecuador. Yahuarcocha, meaning "blood lake" in Kichwa. One of the last battles of the Incas took place here, when the Caranquis were defeated in the late 15th century. Sparing women and children, the Incas killed the men on the shores of the lake, turning the waters blood red.

Valle del Encanto, in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile. This three-kilometer long canyon forms part of a natural passageway from the Pacific Ocean to the Andes. It is is host to a rich gallery of pre-Columbian rock art, going back to the El Molle culture more than 1,500 years ago.
