I like computers, music, books, dogs, amateur (ham) radio, motorcycles, table top role playing games, bass guitar, photography, and other stuff. I'm currently a software developer working primarily in C#.
"Also there are less environmentally destructive ways to spur ideas/structure."

Do you have a blog post or anything on what those ways might be? I'd be very interested in reading something like that. I had trouble writing in the distance past, and creative writing still perplexes me frequently.

Better because of alcohol? Unlikely, unless it's the temporary kind of better ... which is useful and necessary at times. Cheers.

I drink so rarely anymore because it's a multiday recovery for anything more than 3 shots or 6 beers. Got (lots of) good vodka sitting here, and the last time I had some I was on the floor for a couple hours ... I'm thinking that was 4-6 shots, but I wasn't measuring that night so I'm not certain.

I need to finish City Come A Walking by John Shirley, and figure out where The Mechanical by Ian Tregillis (another gift) fits in first though.

Ya, my dad has some gadget in his early/mid 2000s truck. I'm generally not a fan of add-ons. I don't want stuff cluttering my dash, etc. They only thing I use to add was an amateur (ham) radio, but new cars have no good place to put one - I'll probably forgo the 2-way in my next car.

GM is brain dead right now. I can't find the article (thought it was at Ars, but search can't find it). They're reported removing CarPlay / Android Auto from the next model year. I'm going to need a new car mid to late 2026 or early 2027, and they had been on my list until I heard that.

This is unfortunate as it's my preferred format. Trade paperback is generally my backup option. I generally avoid hard cover if possible. eBooks are my "I'm not paying extortion pricing for something that's out of print" option, and I never got into audiobooks.

19 or 20 depending on how you score. I never slept in a water bed, but my grand parents had one and I tried it out when they first got it (for all of like a minute or two before going this is weird, I want off).

Our #Otterhound, Emmet Otter's Jug-Band (call name: Emmet) is named after that film. He said to say "Sup?" to Steve and Brad. ;-)

I don't actually need a new laptop yet - it's over 4 years old and out of hardware support, but it's an i9 laptop w/ 64GB of RAM and runs fine currently. However, I was thinking of switching to Mac when some money comes in a few months. I guess I'll be putting off that purchase. :(

Metrophage was awesome, I've recommended it several times over. Now the quest for a print version of City Come A Walkin' that doesn't cost $146 - because I haven't read that. I might have to cave to an ebook. Do you know any "secret" places for out of print stuff?

I've been an amateur (ham) operator for over 30 years. I can't believe I haven't stumbled on this before. Though In my defense, I've always been more interested in racking up contacts for awards (worked all states, worked 100 countries, etc.) and digital communications.

I don't fly if it's anywhere in the US or Canada. I just add extra days to my time off and drive - which I generally enjoy once I'm off either coast. You get to see so much more when you drive, and you can do side trips along the way - Cadillac ranch, car hinge, and tons of other oddities.

I turned off all the AI stuff in all my browsers - everything they'll let me. I use GitHub Copilot w/ Claude Sonnet for some coding help occasionally, and I'll occasionally ask ChatGPT to do some research and ask it to cite all references - so I can verify. I've steered clear of Grok bc of its owner

I will need a new car in 2026/27 depending. I'm already at a point where I don't like anything (I want knobs, dials, and switches, not touch screens and spyware). I'll have to compromise on something, but ads in something I paid $35K+ for and feature subscriptions for are a hard no for me.

Forgot I had this - found while cleaning today.

I'm sure your issue is not creativity given your body of work. But when I was role playing more, I bought this book because I could never think of a character name. It was life saver for given names.

Losing a pet is hard - they're like family. We had to say goodbye to Otis back in September - still miss him. Hang in there.

I saw them last year with the Descendents - awesome show. My ears cannot take concert level volume anymore, but I love going to shows. I carry earplugs that have a neutral sound deadening material which cuts all frequencies at the same levels. I'm in my 50s, you'll hear no complaints from me.

Those are definitely the best of that brand. I get them sometimes too.

It has been on my list for a while. Where are you watching? Last I checked, it was only one streaming service that I don't currently subscribe to. One I do had it listed, and then said you can pay movie theater IMAX prices to watch it.
