They knew there was a relationship. It would have been the easiest thing in the world for an investigative outlet to peruse its own emails for further detail.

That they elected not to do so proves they did *not* want more details.

And upon firing this reporter for behaving inappropriately w a source, no one at the Times thought to peruse the emails between reporter and source?
