You probably heard about me because I am the founder of the Twisted python networking engine open source project. But I’m also the author and maintainer […]

@xgranade @SnoopJ and here's the point in the conversation where I stare into the middle distance unresponsively for an hour and absent-mindedly thumb through my first-edition paper copy of "Extreme Programming Explained: Embrace Change" purchased in 1999, without really seeing the words

@xgranade @SnoopJ okay look what we need to do to tailor scrum is, we need to really reflect at the beginning of the process, before we do any sprints. just come up with a big plan. and then some of our sprints can be dedicated to the first part of the plan where we do design, then we can have […]

@SnoopJ what about scrum though. what if you choose the *correct* religion, the one god likes

My apparently-controversial take is that you will never find a process that acts as a magic wand that makes your business suddenly amazingly effective

and, in fact, that thinking about process like this is one of the *best* ways to fuck things up

@SnoopJ I'm angry about a _lot_ of things today, but process is for sure one of them
November 20, 2025 at 7:26 PM
@SnoopJ we really thought we were cooking with that name, but it turns out, we were not

@SnoopJ have I ever told you about Twisted’s most popular security feature, the authentication backend “InMemoryUsernamePasswordDatabaseDontUse”?
November 20, 2025 at 3:19 AM
@wagesj45 no worries, thanks for the suggestion!

@wagesj45 As I've said a few times now, It's not just the ear pads. In fact on one of these pairs the earpads don't have this gunk on them. All the *other* surfaces are coated in this stuff, and I can't even brush it off; it seems there is an unlimited supply, it's just sloughing off dust forever

@matt thanks very much for the recommendation

@SnoopJ @xgranade I have never been anywhere that considered it as much as I'd like, but then, I've very rarely had top-line revenue responsibility and when I did I didn't do a great job
November 19, 2025 at 10:20 PM
@xgranade @SnoopJ I think I agree, I am just suspicious of that logic because it *rhymes* with "well sure, C is hard, but they could have really *tested* it for segfaults first" :)

@xgranade @SnoopJ I do always retain _some_ grace for a flexible definition of "adequately" there, which… well I could launch into a long soliloquy about the social construction of "adequate" safeguards but we've all read https://how.complexsystems.fail already haven't we

@SnoopJ @xgranade I have lingering suspicions that cloudflare might not be a very good company that cares about people
November 19, 2025 at 10:09 PM
@xgranade at least, not according to some more fluent rustaceans I was talking to earlier
November 19, 2025 at 9:57 PM
@xgranade it is notable to me that this is the *first* such retrospective I've seen. When I first did a couple of rust tutorials and saw .unwrap() lying all over the place (it is a very tutorial-y kind of method) I thought that this might be a really risky habit for people to develop, but no […]

@matt I definitely don't care about the aesthetics (oddly, mine don't *look* very worn unless you're up close, at least the black ones don't; they just *feel* disgusting) so if they feel good & sound good, I'm happy
November 19, 2025 at 9:53 PM
@matt huh that is a very good price, and those materials (at least in the product shots) appear somewhat more durable. How's the weight? And do they do a closed-back version?
November 19, 2025 at 9:48 PM
@chrisjrn However, I'm open to having my mind blown by some heretofore unconsidered option, given that it's relatively affordable and that it satisfies these other constraints. (I already have separate wireless headphones, these are both for extremely latency-sensitive uses and must be simple 3 […]

@chrisjrn Basically I just want exactly these (HD 579s and HD 569s) without the gross leathery junk.
November 19, 2025 at 9:39 PM
If you would not mind me rolling the golden apple inscribed with "what are the best headphones" onto fedi, I would love to get some recommendations because I don't just want to spend $400, even if it's every 5 years, to replace otherwise-functioning device just because of this dubious aesthetic […]
