Calling it an abortion is a horrible mischaracterization. It's a trial by ordeal, basically. It's still a good argument for the idea that the Bible doesn't consider a fetus a person, but the fetus and its destruction is totally incidental to the story. It's not about abortion.

Pretty sure eggs and dairy products *were* forbidden during lent fasting until a couple centuries ago. Used to call dairy products 'white meat' or whatever and also forbid them.
