I don't see why not. I have before, works just fine. I just prefer the immersion of 3d terrain. Oh I should say this, I found that mechs play a bit differently than they do in Battletech Classic. Example. The Atlas does the same damage at short and medium range brackets, a bit more reach.

Alpha Strike is awesome! Basic rules will be a breeze to learn if you already play Classic. With the Commander's Edition you can add a lot of crunch if you like. Between regimental combat bonuses, lance combat bonuses, special pilot abilities, weather, ECM, advanced weapons and munitions, etc.
