My bad....I didn't think straight. Yes, it would rocket, but it would slow, and prices would remain high. I think thats what you mean, and that's what a lot of people can't get their head around.

Why would it drop? Prices would climb to meet the wage. Under the current monetary system, equality cannot be.

Inflation would rocket.....

Ive not seen 6th form.colleges operate a uniform.policy and, as what would be perceived as a middle earner, I was so glad when my kids turned 16. The cost is outrageous.
January 1, 2026 at 11:36 PM
I'll have to agree to disagree. Ive worked in schools for years and years and the arguments for are not convincing and ive seen schools without a uniform policy work cohesively and exceed academic expectation.
January 1, 2026 at 11:34 PM
OK...point taken...so why does the uniform suddenly stop at 16 and youngsters going to college suddenly can cope?
January 1, 2026 at 11:17 PM
So why is it only am issue here?

It isn't in the USA or many parts of Europe.
January 1, 2026 at 11:10 PM
You'd get a wide range of answers. Would it be conclusive?

A better question would be to parents " what are you having to go without to provide a uniform?"

Another way to look at it is to consider the countries having uniform. Lots of countries don't...

How can the bird that is born for joy sit in a cage and sing?
January 1, 2026 at 10:36 PM
I'm not convinced by that. Go into any secondary school and you can tell who is deprived by the state of their uniform and shoes.
I know of one school that is the most successful in its county that does not have a uniform policy and has a very diverse range of students, in terms of wealth/ poverty.

Does every single child want that?

You dont like opinions that you don't agree with?

Your poor partner....
December 29, 2025 at 4:31 PM
I'm sorry.
I didn't read the rules of the Internet where I have to agree with you.

My deepest apologies. Of course, you are correct and I am wrong.

And I apologise for having the nerve to disagree publicly.

I bow, contrite, and await your forgiveness.

Some advancements are brilliant- rear cameras/ abs spring immediately to mind ( although abs causes issues in the snow with some people), but auto full beam and auto park? Both encourage laziness and take away basic skills. I think deskilling driving is a dangerous route to take.

Not a bot. Not a deliberately contrarian- I just don't like certain devices on cars. A two tonne lump of metal is a killer and I want to be in full control of it. I also want others to be in full control of them and some devices allow people not to have full focus on control of the car.
December 28, 2025 at 2:25 PM
That'd be where people let the car do the work for them and where they concentrate less because they don't have to focus.

But then, I've only been driving 40 years, so what do I know?
December 28, 2025 at 9:22 AM
The car is in control- not the driver.

Like manual g/box- manual handbrake is more nuanced, so things like hill starts are easier and smoother.
Auto g/box and electric handbrake gives more control to the car. It shouldn't be that way around.

All pensions should be contingent on professional success.

That doesn't matter. You either go into a stall or wait.

How come no one has commented that standing at the next urinal to someone is socially unacceptable. The MD should be ashamed.

If you weren't the class clown and fucked up your own education, maybe you'd have a decent job that was enjoyable.

Weirdly, children dont operate like adults and need time off to recuperate. Anything longer than 8 weeks and many of them are absolutely knackered and are more prone to illness because their body defenses are low.

Question: The catalytic converter isn't effective until warm and can take 10 mins to be fully effective, and warms slower at lower speeds. Drive out of town takes 10 mins so does this mean I am blowing out particulates like a party popper- so the particulate pollution is worse?
