We had solar when we lived in California. $30 a year for electric, and we had all electric except for our stove/oven.
We live in Oklahoma now, and our HOA does not allow solar. It's "ugly" they say. I say that $250/month for electric in the summer is ugly.

I will also turn 50 this September. I am also from Missouri. I no longer live there, but for the first half of my life, Missouri was a blue state, or at worst, a swing state. Any time my mom and I talk about politics, she mentions how Missouri voters no longer have a say.

I bought a copy at my local B&N and while I'm enjoying the magazine, and will likely subscribe, I was disappointed to see an ad for Palantir on the third page. I get magazines need to sell advertisements, but Palantir??

Yeah I didn't spend any money on it. I have some old external HDs that I was already using. I certainly haven't done everything on the Opt Out list. Just do what you can!

Oh and as far as making mistakes, it's (IMO) impossible not to. I tried things before I fully understood them and had to redo some of it (I'm looking at you, alias email addresses). It's a long journey, but I find that it lifts a weight off my mind when I leave FB or IG or Gmail!

Everything I've been doing came straight from the Opt Out Project link I shared. It's been super helpful. But it does take time. I've spent several months on it.

Give it a serious think as to whether you want to leave Facebook. I deleted my account (and no regrets) but if you do ever want to go back, they won't let you. If you try to create a new account, they will ban you claiming you don't meet community standards.
