In the run up to year end, I'm keeping my reading list breezy....

I'm going to read some Romantasy... Recommendations? I finished ACOTAR last week and wasn't impressed. I'm reading Fourth Wing now: so far that's much better.

What else is a must read?
Self recommendations accepted!

Solid grisly murder mystery slash police procedural, with bones and science. Plus it's set in the French bit of Canada.
Can't go wrong...

Book club read, so no spoilers.
But I really enjoyed this atmospheric story, with its ambiguity and swirling narratives 🔪👻📚💙

Who doesn't love a bit of eighteenth century gothic romance, sprinkled liberally with poems?
Ghosts! Banditti! Peril! Murder!

Near the end is a journal entry dated 30 October and I got very excited because I thought the climax would come on 31 October, and I was going to save the last bit to read tomorrow.
But the next entry was dated 1 November so I thought I might as well finish it today 🤣

A vampire classic.
It's really good!
(much better than I expected if I'm honest)

October finally Underway ❤️🩸❤️

Why is this author not more widely read? Honestly I'd never heard of her before this year....

This book was witty, charming and very readable.

Elizabeth's musings on life and gardening and Other People are just delightful. Admittedly, nothing much happens, but sometimes that's best.

It's time for another reading list!
It's October again so I'm focussing on the obvious:

1. Dracula (Stoker)
2. Interview with a Vampire (Rice)
3. The Lamplighters (Emma Stonex)
4. A Sicilian Romance (Radcliffe)

📚💙🖋️📚

That'll do - I also have a new job!

I've read some genuinely terrible books recently. This one was actually very enjoyable so here we are:
I was lucky enough to pick it up as a freebie and once my TBR is under 300 I might even pay money for the next book in the series.

I do enjoy a nice, cosy medieval/Tudor murder mystery...

This book was clumsy in parts but in other ways it was great... Not sure whether to recommend or not. I'm glad I read it. That's all I have.

I'm going to see this at The Globe tomorrow night (yayy!) and I have just finished reading it. Super farcical and one of the LGBTQ-est Shakespearean plays there is!

Loved this one!

My book club amigas didn't like it (long, boring, no real plot, no proper ending...) but -

I loved its scale and scope and the blend of historical truths and magical realist vibes. The writing was beautiful, too.

I'd never even heard of Elizabeth von Arnim but I came across this book and I'm definitely going to read more!

She's witty but also cosy, and this 1920s story about 4 strangers sharing a holiday in an Italian castle has stolen my heart.

Strange, beautiful, a little bit creepy, and a glimpse of what love is all about... If you hated Moby Dick, read this instead. It's nothing like Moby Dick.

I was lucky to get this as a freebie (see, not all freebies are junk!)

And it worked because now her other titles are on my wishlist!

Wilde's prison essay, a beautiful if slightly disquieting read.

Took a little side step today and read a short story from my TBR...
I got some strong Charlie Brooker vibes from this one!

Very powerful autobiographical book. Autism, mental health, meltdowns and stripping.

Multiple intersecting stories.
Violence. Feisty women. Men who don't deserve them. Tragedy. Dark dark comedy. A little sprinkle of the supernatural.

I recently finished reading the Earthsea quartet and now I have some more Earthsea stories to read for the first time. Becoming more and more of a fan of Ursula LeGuin!

This was great! US authors doing castles and princesses never seem to strike quite the right depth of authenticity - but it would be churlish to complain when this story was so good, the characters so appealing, the dialogue so witty, the horrifying bits so -eek!- Loved it.

This was my second Wilkie Collins and I'm not sure if I'll bother with any more. Not bad, but not amazing, so... Meh.

Super cute!

I'm still not sure what it was all about but I really really liked it. I especially liked all the dysfunctional professionals (teachers, psychiatric hospital staff, police...)

I don't think I have read a book written in the second person since Choosing My Own Adventure as a kid... ❤️
