O’Sullivan is awful. Plain awful. If you’re becoming a doctor, at least read the DSM V entry for SSD. Then ask yourself how many patients in general could fit those diagnostic criteria, and why only some (those without a simple bio marker test) are given that diagnosis.

Positivism is a tool of science, not science itself. Lack of bio marker positive test is NOT evidence of a psych disorder. I encourage a 100 fold increase in scientific bio research into LC and MECFS. If you want to research SSD, do blind studies across a range of diseases and MH conditions

There is no cogent defence for you harmful argumentative statements. I urge you to read up on how AIDS patients were initially treated and viewed by a similar ignorant perspective. Or MS patients, for example. The pattern is always the same, mistaking positivism for science, then blaming psychology

No, it’s not. The absence of a bio marker test indicates where we are in our scientific understanding. And as for aetiology, it is extraordinary to hear you imply that complexity must be due to a mental health disorder! That is projection I’m afraid.

“Common sense” is not science. It is liable to simply reflect your bias. Likewise, positivism isn’t science, and at root this author is harmfully suggesting that the absence of a common biomarker test equals the presence of a mental health disorder! Gaslight 101.

“Very likely” is a bizarre bias that favors psychologizing - apparently without reference to incredible amounts of evidence that LC is biological. Where, for example, is her evidence that SSD is more prevalent in LC than cancer?

If diagnosis needs to be more careful, why diagnose somatic symptom disorder in long Covid patients? If she truly supports science, then she should not undermine science: long Covid is a proven biological disease. Try getting it, then write a column about how it’s an “ordinary life experience.

Great article. With respect, one thing you missed: any war would be economic, involve US debt. If the US moves on Can/Grnland, US treasuries will be dumped by Can, UK, Europe + China. US loses reserve status and cannot pay its bills. Economic collapse, hyperinflation, civil unrest/war.
