Plus even if you took just the 5-10pt swing the rural white counties in TN had Iowa would be in play. Not to mention the fact that places like Des Moines likely would have swings more in line with Davidson's 20pt swing.

Not all white voters are created equal. I think Iowa could flip because Iowa doesn't have the same extreme degree of racial polarization as states in the South.

The flipside argument I would make is that the rural white South is the last part of the country where we'd expect to see backlash. A major realignment can happen without them if white voters in say, Kansas, have a stronger shift. Not that I think your longer term pessimism is overall unwarranted.
