The concrete Baron Empain Palace is inspired by Hindu and Khmer architecture.
I've wanted to see this for years. Baron Empain Palace, Heliopolos, Cairo. Built 1907-1911 for the Belgian Édouard Empain (1852-1929) by Alexandre Marcel. Recently restored and opened to the public, it's fascinating and crazy.

I've wanted to see this for years. Baron Empain Palace, Heliopolos, Cairo. Built 1907-1911 for the Belgian Édouard Empain (1852-1929) by Alexandre Marcel. Recently restored and opened to the public, it's fascinating and crazy.

The Davies Bryan building, Downtown Cairo. Designed by the Welsh-Architect Robert Williams in 1911. The enormous red brick facade includes polished red granite from Aberdeen and Doulting stone from Somerset as well.

Het Carlton Hotel is gevestigd op de bovenste verdieping van 'La Genevoise'. Ik las dat het nog een vrij gave jaren dertig sfeer heeft. De vm Rivoli staat er naast.

The Art Deco entrance hall is stunning. I managed to take a look. The interior was partly rebuilt in 1952 after a fire during a time of political unrest. Metro is still operating as a cinema nowadays.

Rivoli, a former Art Deco cinema in downtown Cairo was designed by the British architect Leonard Allen. It opened in 1948. Until 1952, the British Rank Organisation, showed British films here. It is no longer a cinema.
