I just realized that I've been writing my Slasher OC project, #ShadowsOfDeath in a way that's easy to make like #Dispatch.

I tried to stop myself.

I tried to limit my plans. To make it a potential single issue anthology or even a Giant Sized type thing.

But I woke up today and realized that wasn't right.

So LIGHTS IN THE DARK, my Horror anthology comic, is now a Full Sized graphic novel of one shots.
Working off the repost attached to this one, I've added three more Horror subgenre titles to the Lights In The Dark concept and expanded it to be a full graphic novel sized title full of one shots. The added titles are JEREMIAH MORTIS - The Last Duel (Weird Western/Western Horror) THE TERRORS - Charity Event (Monster hunting with The Terror family's Black Sheep daughter and the forgotten war god attached to her soul) YOU WANT ME DEAD - Supply Run (Supernatural Survival Horror about a small to mid-sized American city overrun with people turned feral by an unnatural presence directing them towards anyone they have inherent prejudice and bias towards) Mara O'Malley aka Mara Terror, the black sheep daughter of a notorious family of Reality TV celebrity monster hunters from THE TERRORS. For the record, one example of her family being a gathering of just THE WORST FUCKHEADS is the time they used their knowledge of Mara's attraction to women to stage a "coming out" episode for Sweeps Week. Yeah, her family are **THAT** kind of people. Tall and strong looking butch lesbian with naturally super pale skin. Long black hair, slate blue muscle tee, leather jacket with studs and spikes. Prominent scar around her nose from an incident in her childhood. Looks completely done with her family's bullshit. Art is by @Cryptid Khaki.

The current list of titles in LIGHTS IN THE DARK, an anthology of Horror comics starring OC's of mine. The newest addition, LAVINIA FRANKENSTEIN, is outlined in red. Her story's title is called "See Myself In You". She joins TANLEY OF THE GRIM - A Little Lost (a 1920's Pulp Horror comic), THE CRYPT - Approvals (a comedic horror workplace title set in a scientific facility dedicated to studying, rehabilitating and containing monsters and ghosts and other entities), THE WITCH GUARD - Shot In The Dark (a World War One type Cosmic Horror meets Dark Fantasy tale about America using magical troops to fight a horrifying war) and TOPPER - A Night Off (a transman paranormal detective in a suburban punk horror setting) as officially being worked on.

Looking back on it, I realized that there was a piece of the story's DNA that felt missing in the mix.

It didn't take me long to realize what it was.

I'm a huge fan of @danbrereton.bsky.social. And my story of the Daughter of Frankenstein's Monster and her friends needed some NOCTURNALS vibes.

Decided to start working on an entry in SHADOWS OF DEATH, my Slasher portfolio WIP.

This time, it's DARREN DELLARE (pronounced Dell-Air) aka The Devil's Dealer. Offering games of chance to literally change your fate at the cost of mutilation, sacrificing loved ones or much, much, *much* worse...
NAME: Darren Dellare ALIAS: The Devil’s Dealer STATUS: ACTIVE M.O.: Temptation/Collection HUNTING GROUNDS: [VARIOUS] PREFERRED INSTRUMENT: Self-fulfillment UNIQUE TRAITS: Damned, Gambler, Playful ORIGIN: 1956 NUMBER OF VICTIMS (To Date): [UNKNOWN, IMPOSSIBLE TO CALCULATE] PROFILE: The absolute embodiment of The Gambler archetype, Dellare is perhaps one of the most fair entries in this whole dossier. Slightly taller than average height often seen in a clean light blue suit straight out of 1950’s fashion. Rarely shows his eyes which reports claim are brown with a slight hint of gold, mostly due to the fact he almost never takes off his sunglasses. His whole vibe is one of playful cajoling, trying to get those who enter his premises to relax and enjoy the games he offers. But therein lies the truly insidious core of his so-called “games”. For every table of chane within his House are ones of extremely high reward, but also of the most malevolent and twisted lows one can possibly imagine. There is very little he is not willing to stoop to in the name of keeping the game going. He often offers those he challenges an opportunity to walk away, yes. But every reward he offers those to keep playing seems perfectly crafted to make you stay. To make you keep playing. To make you press your luck further and further. And if you can’t pay, he does offer ways to try again. After all, what’s a few fingers, an eye or even a loved one in the name of turning your luck around…? Four cards, each the Ace of their specific suit, as part of a dealt hand in a game of poker.

Most days, my mind constantly fights me when I try to create.

"No one wants to see what you make."

"You're wasting artists' time."

"You ideas don't matter and you don't matter."

Then I come across stuff I commissioned like Picker's Orchard by @kolokomiks.bsky.social and smile at my ideas.
Picker's Orchard - a small section of The Devil's Eye, a concept involving a section of wood groves where people who enter vanish without a trace and what they go through to get to its center. Two women entering a grove where all the trees - from trunk to roots to leaves and even fruit - are made of disembodied hands in the glow of a camera's light underneath an ominous night sky.

A fun side of working on comics (even shorts) is imagining designs by different artists.

One on my mind a lot lately is TOPPER, my Transman paranormal detective with a punk edge (drawn here by @portaltohades.bsky.social).

Ex: Keep imagining him in @skyepatridge.bsky.social or @kim-hu.com's style.
Topper is a Transman punk who returned back to his home of Deep Well (nicknamed The Well) after being hit with magic in the middle of a wizard's duel he stumbled upon. Effectively leaving him with his skull on the outside of his head, but also effectively immune to all forms of hexes, curses, mystic transformations and whatnot. For example, he can get bit by a werewolf and his body will reject the lycanthropy instinctually. This form of immunity makes him the best form of protection of his The Well, which almost the entirety of the local and state police force refuse to step into because of how screwed up the area is. You know... Because of all the monsters, serial killers, mystic crimes and whatnot that seems to run rampant in his neck of the woods. Aided by a pretty eyeless witch, a normal partner with a penchant for having the right weapon at the right time, the local sheriff who may or may not have a vendetta against the local Police Department and some of the locals, Topper's chip on his shoulder about people doing the right thing gets him in a whole mess of trouble. But someone's gotta do something. Might as well be him, right?

Anyway, The Witch Guard will have suitably witchy versions of the military uniforms worn during WWI (though it mainly takes place in the MSA - Magical States of America, so witchy Doughboys).

I also have an idea for patches specific to various Witch Guard special units (Liliths, Morrigans, etc.)

Someone tried to call The Witch Guard a setting where "cute girls fight monsters" because of the Studio Ghibli elements I say is in the DNA of the story.

The Witch Guard is a very fucked up universe, y'all Normal Humans or Girls who can cast magic fighting Cosmic Horror entities The veil of reality growing sickly like a cystic outbreak Magic that can and probably will horrifically backfire on you The world being trapped in a magical version of World War One Every spell drawing the notice of The Coming Dark, making it more likely to attack whoever is casting spells But said spells also being your best chance of fighting off the horrific nightmares spawned by The Coming Dark The things the MSA government is willing to do to its own soldiers/citizens to maintain the facade of Normalcy for Propaganda "Ha ha, cute witches fighting monsters" my fucking ass This might honestly be one of my most messed up original settings

Holy shit, I love where my mind goes to for some of the comic stuff I want to do.

This whole sequence is gonna be fun to script/layout in The Witch Guard segment of the anthology comic I'm planning.

The plan is "Studio Ghibli doing WWI cosmic horror" and I aim to deliver. Laputa/Mononoke + Verdun.
A grab from a Discord server I'm in, of my own post I wrote before heading to bed. This is for The Witch Guard, where The Magical States of America has been caught up in a World War with a Cosmic Horror nightmare that has kept reality trapped at an early 1900's level of development and society. And on the front lines, troops are separated between two types - normal soldiers nicknamed "Adams" (both men and women) and magically gifted soldiers called "Eves" (all women, the titular "Witch Guard"). THE TEXT IN THE PIC: "Okay, pain pill is hitting before bed and I had a very brilliantly unique way of doing some of the Ghibli-esque Cosmic Horror stuff in The Witch Guard (another of my comics I'm working on) "Bubbling fester, as if the membrane of reality itself was becoming infected. Bursting with a slow rot, as if the flesh of reality itself was rapidly and malignantly becoming cystic and dark. Black oozing unmaking drooling into the mortal plane as something birthed itself from the pustule of existence's decay..." Not bad for a comic concept about witches and mortals being drafted into an eternal world war with horrifying eldritch nightmares."

Every WIP my brain is telling me to work on, including two that aren't in my Google Drive.

A total of 10 different stories I'm trying to peck away at, including one chapter extension.

I think I'm a bit mentally unwell today, forcing myself into so many different tones, genres and story voices.

Just had an idea about DC Comics putting out an official annual Halloween anthology (not just one off specials, but an actual *planned* anthology a la DC Pride in the vein of House Of Mystery, Ghosts, Weird War Tales).

Call it FRIGHT KNIGHTS.

1st cover could have Batgirl Cass Cain vs. Jiangshi.
Cassandra Cain, the second Batgirl. Inarguably one of the most dangerous Martial Artists in all of DC like her mother - Lady Shiva. A still from the iconic Martial Arts Horror Comedy film, Close Encounters Of The Spooky Kind. It's about a hapless man (played by Sammo Hung) whose wife is cheating on him with a Taoist Wizard that seeks to get rid of her marriage because he's just too kindhearted and naively unafraid. It's also the film that put Jiangshi (Chinese Hopping Vampire/Zombies) on the map regarding Asian Cinema.
