I thought Lalam asked me to reply to your post with this, but I may have misunderstood and replied to the wrong one! Sorry if I made a mistake. :)

(試行錯誤)エポナをはじめとする馬ども…筋肉の動きを表現するのと、データの量をへらしてたくさんの馬を出せるようにするために、5、6回作り直してます。

(Trial and Error) The horses, starting with Epona... I remade them 5 or 6 times in order to express the movement of their muscles and reduce the amount of data to enable us to have lots of horses.

"Congrats on the release, you're fired." What an industry... I'm sorry to hear that, Trick and friends, and I hope you find a soft place to land with a company that supports you. Thank you for your work so far.

Thank you! One further bit of info I forgot: Okajima is credited as the author of a number of files in the Yoshi's Island ctools folder, with dates of 1992, 1994, and 1995. More references to him, mostly monkey-related functions, can be found in code by searching for "okaj". Best wishes to you too!

Oh, I'd also like to say that Alieneer noticed the graphic file the silhouette comes from, and Mattrizzle has been working hard to confirm information related to it, in addition to collaborating with me to find, reconstruct, and document other cool stuff. It's a team effort!

Anyway, this is my first time posting on Bluesky. I've never used it before and barely used Twitter, so hopefully this reply chain is communicated to you somehow. Thank you for the interest and crediting me, it was sweet. :) And kudos for having a great Tumblr.

My headcanon is that he accidentally took one of his colleagues umbrellas home from work one rainy day (by accident, he swears!) and so his umbrella banditry became an in-joke.

One of the Grinder entities is called さらい猿(岡嶋猿、傘泥棒猿)- Abducting Monkey (Okajima Monkey, Umbrella Bandit Monkey). This links Okajima to the graphics of the umbrella-wielding man. He may be linked to or have turned into the removed "Umbrella Mushroom Yoshi" transformation.

There are instances in other Nintendo games of developers being referenced in or responsible for some of the code, but not credited in the games themselves. Okajima was given a Special Thanks in A Link to the Past, so he was working at Nintendo at the time that Yoshi's Island was being developed.

I think the "7" in the name is almost definitely a reference to Mode 7. Additionally, the way the guy's holding his arm looks like a 7.

There's also an unused voice file for a removed transformation called sdmr.sbn (presumably "sound mister.sbn") that says "岡嶋さん、素敵!" (Okajima-san is wonderful!). This may be another link between mr.777 and Okajima.

He may be Nobuo Okajima, a programmer who was credited on Yoshi's Story, but not Yoshi's Island. There are sprites of Okajima wearing a brown suit, sometimes wielding an umbrella, in some of the graphic files in the source code and NEWS tape backups. He has a similar-looking head to mr.777.
