On April 6th we celebrate all the people on the Asexual Spectrum, as we spread awareness about this identity that still suffers stigma from outside and inside the LGBTQIA+ community.
Asexual (or Ace) is a queer identity that describes people who don't experience sexual attraction or who only experience it under certain circumstances. Asexuality is a vast spectrum. If the label represents your experience, then you're asexual! Because Asexuality is a spectrum, Ace people can also use other labels or micro-labels to better describe their identity!

The importance of talking about A-spec identities: (Aromantic-Asexual Spectrum) is still seen as a "lack" of something. Or worse, as a mental/physical issue. That's because of Allonormativity: the concept that all humans experience sexual and romantic attraction, all in the same way. --- This is NOT TRUE. Help A-Spec people raise their voice and speak the truth! LGBTQIA+ activists and creators must learn about us and include Aromantic and Asexual experiences in their content and speeches. We need attention to fight against Allonormativity and all the toxic beliefs about our identity and lives. We need help to stop the stigmatisation and pathologisation of our orientation.

We exist, we are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, we are valid! 🌈
Being Aromantic means not being attracted to people in a romantic way: not feeling the urge towards other people to create the kind of traditional romantic bond and/or union that is most common in society. Aromanticism is a spectrum. Attraction can fluctuate or happen only under certain circumstances. Aro people can have partners, enjoy romantic activities/media etc... Enjoying the concepts is different from being attracted to someone.

It's common for Autistic and other Neurodivergent people to be Queer. It is even more common for them to identify as Ace, Aro and Agender, or at least one of the three. Can you relate? The reasons may be various. For Neurodivergent people, challenging social norms is routine, so perhaps it's easier for them to question things like gender and allonormativity (the concept that all humans experience sexual and romantic attraction) and find out that they relate to the Triple A experiences. Triple A identities face a lot of stigma, even inside the LGBTQIA+ community itself. We must change that. Include Ace, Aro and Agender in your Queer content, learn and share as much as possible. Let's make the community truly inclusive, as it was supposed to be from the start.

It is a Spectrum, meaning that there are many different ways people can experience the identity. Aromantic (or Aro) describes people who experience romantic attraction towards no gender, or only experience it under certain circumstances. It is a Spectrum, meaning that there are many different ways people can experience the identity. Agender describes people who don't identify with any gender, and/or people who have a neutral gender identity. It falls under the Trans / Non-binary / Genderqueer umbrella, though not all agender people feel like part of it. Because it is a spectrum, for some Agender individuals the experience may be fluid, some may still have partial connection to a gender (or more), etc. There are many different ways people can experience this identity.
