Another vintage comic book cover recreation for a fan in France...
August 31, 2025 at 3:28 AM
Another one of my recent comic book cover recreations, Spidey Super Stories #31 from 1977 originally by the great John Romita Snr. Get in touch if you'd like this or any of my vintage cover recreations.

The patron who bought my recent comic book recreation of a vintage John Byrne / Terry Austin portfolio illustration sent me a couple photos of it framed and hanging on his wall in Paris, France. I always get a kick out of seeing all the different ways my art has been displayed over the years.

My latest comic book original art recreation - Jack
Davis' cover for Mad #2 from 1952. Created by hand with methods as close as possible to how the original was made including using vintage supplies and tools whenever possible. Get in touch if you're interested or for custom-made commissions.

My latest comic art recreation, a vintage John Byrne / Terry Austin Superman illustration. This commission for a collector in France uses vintage dip pen nibs and other vintage supplies to match the original as closely as possible, but with many layers of anti-fraud elements built into the art.

I finally found time to do a few comic book cover recreations.
Auction value of the five covers I recreated by hand using period materials and tools, IF they were the originals?.. more than $700,000 USD!
I had a lot of fun doing them. For these or your own commission please get in touch.

Diggin' Thru the Vaults - May 2025 Edition...

Editorial illustration from the year 2000... this is what I thought things would look like in 2025: solar panels for roofs, streamlined electric cards and bicycles, smart glasses, hydro-thermal heating, water-based commercial air carriers, etc.

The greeting card company that distributes some of my cards to 180+ locations around BC and Alberta requested some Canadian-themed cards. Here's a fun one I'm working on at the moment...

Here's a fun look at how I create a typical simple spot illustration. There are a lot of possible variations depending on the job, but this is the most common way I do them.

Some years ago I was asked to create a series of retro superhero-style comic strip ads for a tech company to use online and in trade magazines. On the right are some of the characters designs we ended up not using and on the left is the final look of the ad's main character "Ohm Man".

As the holiday season quickly approaches so to does the realization that in the 15 years since I made this Christmas card for Joanne I've now come to resemble the jolly fellow on the left more than the dapper fellow on the right.

I'm diggin' through the vaults again this week - today we have another of my covers for Kayak magazine from the misty shrouds of yesteryear... or 2010 if you prefer.

Another blast from the past... one of my cover illustrations, minus the header and all the text, for Kayak magazine, a Canadian kids history magazine.
