This doesn't get talked nearly enough, but it's really disappointing how THREE characters who are ALL examples of important representation in #DoctorWho have been really underwritten so far. When they pop up, it's just like "oh look it's them again" instead of showing us who they are. #WhoSky

A parent of a adult son with Cerebral Palsy writes (on Twitter) how they believe someone with Cerebral Palsy can't consent to GA surgery. This is a topic @imanibarbarin.bsky.social has done really well to raise. Disability rights and trans rights? One battle.
This is where my response of outrage stems from. My son has CP, and while he is so clever in many ways, (and I believe as an adult will be seen as competent and able to consent), he is childlike in others—such a pure soul and so trusting, wanting so much to belong, so grateful for anyone who gives him attention, makes him feel part of something. Without safeguarding, he’d be so susceptible to love bombing and people of authority grooming him. He’s always looking for a reason for his different circumstances, and dry explanations of his neurological condition only serve to distress him. He believes people are good, because he’s only ever been surrounded by his loved ones. I homeschool him with my other children and a long standing hs group. His idea of wicked people are the villains of Power Rangers, never teachers and doctors. He’d be such an easy mark. And these people are already so medicalized! They are not usually hale and hearty—they are vulnerable! How can they put her body through that serious surgery, after she’s probably been under GA for even yearly dental cleanings since a young child, when she obviously can’t manage her own wound care? Dangerous in myriad ways. My son is always in some degree of pain, so I can’t imagine a Dr adding yet another burden to his body, risking death & infection as well as bone density loss, cancer and cardiac issues with testosterone. One of the reasons we homeschool is not wanting him to hear from trusted authority figures that people can be born in the wrong body. It’s so cruel! I think we are all merely responding to the way her case underscores the utter depravity of those who have a duty of care selling lies, promising transformation and escape while profiting from already compromised patients as well as the unavoidable eugenics component of the myth of “transgender people.”
