It's the Ted Stevens Act part. Under that law, congress could come in and decertify any NGB that doesn't comply. I'm sure that if that were to happen to a NGB, anything that comes after would be worse than what already exists.

...the alternate list, as someone pointed out to me. Right now, it's highly unlikely they'd get another spot as an alternate, but it would screw them over if they're not actually getting it.

Just to confuse things further, the men and pairs' spots are still listed as TBD on the USFS assignment grid. The Browns have been added and promoted on USFS socials.

If the S/N assignment is actually still TBD, getting that second spot takes them off...

For the senior athletes, the ones who go to the Olympics, Worlds, etc, they do have such protocols in place because of the 1961 crash. I don't know what the exact policy is, but I know it exists.
