And yet, it still won’t matter for the average worker. Ambition, initiative and self education are. It valued by hiring managers- either you check the degree box or you don’t. I have 20+ years in my field but still lose out against candidates with little to no experience and that piece of paper.

I think it depends on the kid, and most don’t know who they are enough at 18 to make a lifelong decision. We encouraged our kids to do what worked for them- college, trade school, military, or just trying different types of jobs.
