even if I wanted to watch it, it's currently stuck in legal hell as allegedly the producers had to cut 50+ lines of "politically sensitive" dialog to make it suitable for general audiences (every vijay movie is a general audiences blockbuster). however propoganda for vijay's party will stay intact!

- theres a bust of marx in the lead single
- theres at least 10 cameos from other vijay movies
- the tagline is "rise up together"
- is there a plot too? who knows!

thalapathy ("master") vijay is an incredibly famous tamil action star whos quitting to become a politician advocating marxism, togetherism + social justice

but before he goes hes making one last film- about a hero named thalapathy who saves the country with marxism, togetherism + vijay references

2025 was our 1st year really watching south indian movies (besides rajamouli and enthiran) and its fun seeing a new set of movie tropes and stars

however we only really watched tamil and telugu and i would like to watch some malayalam and kannada films!

new neighbor is a hong kong fan too so 🤔

music director of the year- this was our first year watching south indian movies, so of course we encountered a lot of anirudh.

he's sooo popular, but for a good reason - his music is really good. fav albums: vikram (soundtrack/score), petta, maari, thiruchitrambalam

Actor of the year is vijay sethupathi- after loving him in master and petta, we watched krk and wow

as villain characters, he has a huge hulking aura that steals the show, and as romantic characters, he can show a soft sweet side that's equally engaging. plus hes been in a lot of great movies!

and in first place WAR 2!! yes it has a 5.3/10 on imdb, yes the cgi is terrible, yes the japan ninja fight scene was stupid, no tiger shroff isn't in this one, but somehow it was even gayer than the first one

i traveled 140 miles to see this and boy I had a great time

2- KRK has a 5.5/10 on imdb but they're haters. rambo is a man cursed with bad luck, but two girls fall in love with him. rather than choosing, he dates them both

the comedy is a bit weird, but it's a real poly relationship with an asexual lead- if you get it, you get it. also free on youtube!

3- idk how to describe race gurram. youtube poop of a movie, a parody of itself. free on YouTube with subtitles- 2h47m but you won't get bored

4- one of three movies we rated five stars this year- maanadu is a thriller about a muslim man trapped in a timeloop trying to prevent a political assassination where muslims are unfairly blamed

current political relevance aside, the thriller plot is just so tight and well crafted. watch this one

5- third vijay movie in a row, and the last because I technically watched ghilli last year

dont let the fact that its a commercial movie and the lead single is about posting on instagram fool you- vijay is a communist and the climax is him leading a workers strike... its peak

6- Leo was an incredible disappointment writing wise but the first half... wow, a great performance from vijay and one of the best looking indian movies imo. just watch till naa ready and turn it off. the netflix english dub is actually great!

7- mersal is not the best movie ever, and is perhaps a bit stupid, but magician vijay beating up corrupt doctors in the name of free healthcare is so me

also vijay and nitya menon in the flashback... soo pretty

8- i dont enjoy romance- and ive tried- but I smiled at nuvvostanante nenoddantana :) amazing soundtrack too
