The day I realised I can't pronounce 'lure'...
Angler fish are incredible for so many reasons, the depth they live at, their bio luminescent lures, and their extraordinary mating habits.

For Ofcom's Data Week, our Head of Statistics, Douglas Cameron, interviewed the UK National Statistician, Professor Sir Ian Diamond! When asked about the most common misconception about statistics, he replied, "That they’re always right."

The cutest members of the animal kingdom that menstruate are:
- The elephant shrew (not an elephant, nor a shrew but more closely related to elephants than shrews!) Now known as a Sengi.
- The Spiny Mouse

Did this list surprise you? Any animals you thought menstruate that aren't on the list?

I bought a new keep cup because the suction on my old one went…and every sip I ended up with coffee on me. I feel like I’ve levelled up now. Exactly the same cup, same colour, same coffee in it but a whole new (stain free) me.

All things Katarina Dalton, including a lovely book ‘Premenstrual Syndrome Illustrated’.
I am using the fabulous wellcometrust library for the books and the final inspo to get this PhD finished. Any tips for the final month? Still feel I have a lot to go 😥 #phdchat #AcademicChatter #menstruation

I just completed "Trebuchet?!" - Day 1 - Advent of Code 2023! First time I'm doing this, definitely needed some help for part two (the subreddit!) but this was good fun. Try it out: adventofcode.com/2023/day/1 #AdventOfCode

Naming files by @jennybryan.bsky.social top tip:

I like neat files. When I’m in a rush I don’t take the time to name them sensibly and it always comes back to haunt me.

I’m not doing much socially while I finish my PhD. But this Saturday there is the national rabbit festival and I am SO EXCITED! All about rabbit behaviour and welfare, fun treats for rabbits and enrichment ideas. No rabbits will be there, as prey animals they’d get too scared. It’s going to be brill

Stint in the library this weekend, back in Oxford today. Lots of freshers about, filled with enthusiasm for starting! It’s very sweet and I feel very old. But nonetheless the views are not something I will ever tire of.

My undergraduate degree cost £9000 a year, for 3 years. I got a maintenance grant of £3250 for three years. A total of £36750.
I repaid a bit while working at the museum. The interest accrued means I now have to pay £50835. We were completely screwed by the government.

The kids in my area sometimes bring injured they find to me. Today it was a young #hedgehog. Hedgehogs shouldn’t be out in the day, & this one wasn’t moving. I suspect it ate rat poison. The hoglet is now with an experienced rehabber but it’s very small and cold. Fingers crossed. #wildlife

Pp checks are looking nice! And the graph for means is nice too. Built up my model from threshold only to full…now to try imputed data. While I desperately try to keep the bayes stuff in my head. Feels like catching water with a sieve 😂 #brms #rstats #stars
