And why is this important? Because most research assumes minority groups respond uniformly to discrimination, but our findings reveal that education and integration create vastly different coping strategies within the same community!

This is consistent with a dissociation-detachment mechanism, where more integrated members of a stigmatized group distance themselves from the in-group to buffer against the negative psychological impacts of discrimination.

Using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel we find nuanced effects of terrorism on Muslims in Germany: More educated and more integrated respondents are less likely to feel discriminated against after attacks, compared to those with lower levels of education or integration.
